When the current owners walked into 42 Valentine St., one of several townhouses built across Cambridge in a distinctive style by architects Bell & Fandetti, they could see in its open and dramatic form the opportunity to capture the 3rd bedroom they needed without changing the character that made the property special. What they created is a riff on the architect's original idea that is more functional for their family, yet capitalizes on the incredible light from large south facing windows and vaulted ceilings. They renovated the kitchen & bathrooms, updated the systems, and reinvigorated the space with soothing colors & refinished floors. Outside, they built a large deck that serves as their 7th room much of the year. As they leave their city house, they will miss their community of friends and neighbors in their Cambridgeport neighborhood, they will miss the many nearby parks, and, most of all, they will miss the vibrancy of Harvard and Central Squares.
